Field Day - Thank you for an AWESOME Day!

It was wonderful to see so many parents and family members cheering on our scholars at Field Day today! A big thank you to everyone who helped out by organizing and sending in snacks. Everyone's support today was a great way to end Teachers Appreciation Week! We are so grateful for our wonderful parents this year!

Geometry Golf Language Arts Connection

This semester, our scholars have taken time to research famous golfers, including their notable accomplishments and character traits. They even wrote diamante poems about their careers that were on display at Open House. It was only recently, though, that scholars began to use this research to create fictional interviews with their golfers. Scholars did a fantastic job using their research to write scripts for their interviews and in planning their setup and props. Finally, we went outside on a beautiful day to record their interviews!

Coding with Arduinos

Scholars have worked this week to develop their coding skills and increase their understanding of electrical circuits by using Arduino boards. Scholars had recently written legends to explain how a Texas native wildflower came to exist. They used the Engineering Design Process to imagine, plan, and create a representation of a science concept that was used in their legend. 

Learning Objectives - Week 33

Reading: 

I can discuss the elements that make up a plot.

I can describe the relationship between ideas and events in an imaginative story.

Writing:  

I can write a legend that includes a plot that builds to a climax and details about the characters and setting.

Social Studies:
I can identify how Texas transformed from an agricultural economy to a diversified, industrialized, and urbanized one. Scholars will explore the cattle, oil, and transportation industries that provided great resources of growth.

This week:

• Reading log - Read 20 minutes each night 
• Spelling words - Practice on SpellingCity App - 
• TEST ON MONDAY, MAY 11th
• Monday - Scholars will sort their words and receive practice lists. 
• Monday - Test will include 10 words from the practice list and 4 mystery words that follow the spelling pattern.
• Students will sort their words into categories as part of the test.

Eco Buddies - Field trip to the GHS Ecology Center

We had great time on field trip today to the GHS Ecology Center. Several scholars and even teachers' kids attended this amazing opportunity! Scholars rotated through five rotations, including gardening, the aviary, pond, small animals, and fishing! Check out the pictures below!
