Electrical Engineering Unit: Day 8
Scholars acted as contractors today. They used the plans that they received on Day 7 to build the engineers' designs. They then needed to clearly communicate what improvements they would make in order for their design to work.
Scholars completed the day with another schematic diagram challenge!

Persuasive Texts and Media
Scholars have been analyzing persuasive texts and media. First, scholars focused on the differences between facts and opinions and analyzed the use of facts to support opinions in editorials. We also used the following website to practice identifying facts that support an opinion:
Garfield Learning Lab - Fact and Opinion

Next, scholars identified and discussed different types of media and how they try to influence their reader/audience. We used the following website to introduce and reinforce these concepts:
Finally, scholars analyzed catalog products, looking for persuasive language. They created a rubric that could evaluate a persuasive advertisement, and then they imagined, planned, and created a persuasive advertisement for a made up product that would appeal to a consumer.

Valentine's Day Party
Scholars had an awesome Valentine's Day Party with plenty of hot cocoa, cookies, and cupcakes! Scholars exchanged Valentines and enjoyed their afternoon! Thanks to everyone who helped to make our Valentine's Day Party a success!
Electrical Engineering Unit: Days 6 and 7
Scholars continued to design their circuit from Day 5. They were reminded to clearly communicate their ideas in their labeled picture and schematic diagram.
Next, scholars switched from being engineers to contractors. Scholars switched plans with scholars from another classroom! They looked at the other engineers' designs and determined if they felt their circuit would work.
