Scholars recently used Carl Sandburg's poem "Fog" to examine how he uses a metaphor to create imagery.
Fog
The fog comes
on little cat feet.
It sits looking
over harbor and city
on silent haunches
and then moves on.
They then wrote free verse poems about nature using metaphors. Finally, they added line breaks and stanzas to their poems, and they chose fonts, text colors, pictures, and paper colors that best represented their topics. The poems are now on display outside of our classroom. Be sure to check them out at Open House!
