Week 6 Update

What an eventful week! On Wednesday, scholars had a great experience being part of a webinar with specialists from the NASA Johnson Space Center in Houston! The webinar, "Investigating Earth with Astronaut Imagery from Space," was led by Lisa Vanderbloemen (NASA's Image Science & Analysis Lab) and Paige Graff (Education and Public Outreach). Scholars viewed images of hurricanes, volcanoes, floods, and glacial formations on Earth as seen from space, and they interacted with the presenters by participating in discussions and asking questions through a chat. Within our classroom, scholars also used TodaysMeet to communicate their questions and to share their thinking!

Scholars also did a fantastic job completing a Social Studies Cornerstone Task. Given several primary sources, including the lyrics and song of “Texas, Our Texas” the Pledge to the Texas Flag, photographs of the San Jacinto Monument, the Alamo and several missions, as well as some secondary sources describing state celebrations like Texas Independence Day and Juneteenth, students analyzed the sources using Claim, Evidence, and Reasoning to support the claim that Texas is a unique and interesting state.
